The Children’s Department of the La Porte County Public Library offers a wide variety of materials including hardback and paperback books, board books, pop-up books, audio cassettes, audio cassette/book sets, books on CD, music CDs and magazines. The "Parent’s Shelf" contains materials designed for use by adults (parents, teachers, care givers) on topics related to child development and educational needs

History for Kids

Storytimes are offered for children ages 2 to 5 years. Storytime may consist of activities, music and singing, stories, and films. Registration is not necessary. Please call the Children's Department at 362-7128 for more information.

Preschool - ages 3 to 5 years

  • Wednesdays at 10:00 am every week.

Toddler Time - 18 months to 3 years

  • Every Friday of each month at 10:00 a.m
Teachers are invited to schedule monthly visits to the Library. We offer a wide variety of programs for elementary schools students, as well as preschool and private school programs. We also are available to visit your school and present a program. This can be done on a regular basis or when needed.
All home school instructors, care givers, and students are invited to use the Library. All programs are available for home school children. In addition monthly visits to the Library for programs can be arranged. Or, if you’d like, schedule your programs in the Library on an as needed basis.
